The former Shamrock Rovers man returns to City - where he played over 200 times during 2002 and 2009.

Goold will have surgery in the next few weeks and - is expected to miss most of the the season.

Match abandoned after pitch invasion

With 37 minutes gone, and with Ajax leading 1-0 thanks to Gregory Van Der Wiel's goal, a supporter ran on to the field and went to attack the AZ goalkeeper Esteban.

The Costa Rican responded by kicking the fan to the ground before stewards intervened.

Referee Bas Nijhuis then sent off the 22-year-old, prompting a furious reaction on the AZ bench.

AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek responded by calling his players from the field forcing Nijhuis to abandon the game.

This player was not so lucky.

A fan was able to launch a hideous assault on an unsuspecting player after invading the pitch, before being set upon by the victim's team-mates.

The attack on unwitting defender George Galamaz happened during a tie between Romanian clubs Petrolul Ploiesti and visiting Steaua Bucharest.

Finally police and security broke up the ugly scenes and dragged the hooligan off the pitch.

Play was eventually restarted but the match was later called off by the referee when a flare was thrown onto the pitch.

George O'Callaghan Moves to Brunei

Former Cork City star George O'Callaghan will now play his football in South East Asia - with Brunei side DPMM FC.

DPMM Facts.

They're the only professional football team in Brunei and will compete in Singapore's 14 team S-League next season.

Their coach is a 57 year old former goalkeeper from Croatia called Vjeran Simunic.

DPMM FC is owned by the Crown Prince of Brunei, His Royal Highness Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, who previously played as a goalkeeper for the team.

The 32 year old joins up with DPMM after a brief spell with conference side Cambridge United - where he failed to make an appearance.

Jake Hecht back in Cork after UFC win

The 27 year old picked up an impressive win over Rich Attonito in Toronto, winning by TKO with just over a minute of the second round gone.

British Horse-Racing Authority ban 11 people

Bord Gais Neptune picked up a good win in the men's super league on Saturday night.

They beat Belfast Star by 99 points to 96 in a cracker.

Ger Noonan was outstanding picking up 36 points.

Munster stay top of Pool A

Munster left Thomond Park yesterday - with their fourth successive pool win in this season's Heineken Cup.

The overcame the Scarlets by 19 points to 13.

James Coughlan got a second-half try while Jonathan Edwards was in the sin-bin, Ronan O'Gara added 4 penalties as-well.

Scarlets hit back with a converted try from replacement Ken Owens but couldn't add to that in the closing moments.

The results leaves Munster top of the pool on 16 points, that's 5 clear of Scarlets.

Cork based MMA fighter Jake Hecht won his UFC debut on Saturday night.

The 27 year old defeated Rich Attonito in the second round by TKO to improve his record to 11-2, and picked up the biggest victory of his career.

Cork Women,s FC suffer defeat

Cork Women's FC played there last game of the year against Wexford in the Bus Eireann Women's league this afternoon.

After dominating the opening 10 minutes ,Cork went behind from a corner ,with Connie Murphy scoring a header.

Cork Women's FC had more possession and chances - but couldn't convert that into goals

One nil to Wexford at half time.

15 Minutes into the second half Wexford went 2 up with a powerful header from Rihanna Jarrett.

For the remainder of the game Cork were in full control but could not finish the chances they created.

Cyril Kavanagh receives Munster GAA supporter of the year award

Charleville are Munster champions

Charleville beat Limerick side Cappamore in the Munster Junior hurling final yesterday afternoon.

The final score in Mallow was Charleville 3-15 Cappamore 2-8

The win was largely helped by the goals - with James O'Brien, Andrew Cagney and Derry Murphy hitting the net.

Goulding out till March

The Cork footballers will have to do without Daniel Goulding until March at the earliest.

The Eire Og man suffered an ankle injury in the All Ireland qualifier with Down last July, got close to full fitness but suffered a set back and needed surgery last week to correct the problem.

He will miss the opening rounds of the National Football League.

Irishman wins reality show

A very interesting story coming out of the States this week - after an Irishman - Mark Murphy - won one of biggest reality sport shows over there- called Big Break Ireland on the Golf Channel.

Cork City sign Daryl Horgan

The club have confirmed they've signed winger Daryl Horgan from Sligo Rovers for a nominal fee.

UCC are into the Munster football final

Great result for UCC yesterday-They beat Moyle Rovers of Tipperary by 5 goals and 12 points to 1-5 in Clonmel today.

The Students led from start to finish - things were close up to half time - with UCC leading 1-7 to 1-2.

But The Cork champions came flying out of the blocks in the second - and scored three goals in 5 minutes to effectively finish the game as a contest.

The emptied the bench and went on to win the game by 20 points.

The final score again - UCC 5-12 Moyle Rovers 1-5.

The win sets up a Munster final with Dr Crokes - who beat Kilmurry Ibricken.

Violence breaks out at GAA match

Police have launched a criminal investigation,

after a Carrickmore man had part of his ear bitten off during a Tyrone

Division one league football final on the 13th of November.

Violence erupted among supporters from Dromore and Carrickmore,

after fighting spread from the pitch into the stand towards the end of the game.

Stephen Redmond - Cork's Open Water Swimming Superstar

Stephen Redmond has accomplished some of the world's toughest marathon swims - which sees him swimming for between 12 and 22 hours non stop.

Cork dominated the Under 21 Bord Gáis Energy Munster GAA Awards for 2011, with winners in hurling and football from the county announced today.

Cork's dual star Aidan Walsh has scooped the Under 21 Hurler of the Year while Ciaran Sheehan was crowned Under 21 Footballer of the Year.

The players will be receiving their awards at the upcoming Bord Gáis Energy Munster GAA Awards which is taking place on 3 December in the Malton Hotel, Killarney.

Meanwhile the Minor Hurler award went to Clare's Tony Kelly and Tipperary's TJ Ryan took the Minor Footballer award.

Cork City have announced the signing of defender Kevin Murray.

Murray, who has captained Waterford United for a number of years after signing for them from Cobh Ramblers, had a previous spell with City some years ago.

Jake Hecht - "Fighting in the UFC is a dream come true"

Ruairi catches up with Jake "The Hitman" Hecht, the Cork based MMA fighter set to make his UFC debut in December.

"This is a dream come true. I'm still waiting to wake up! I remember being eight years old and watching UFC fights and dreaming of one day doing that, and it's here now.. I'm still waiting to wake up!"

If Jake Hecht sounds like a man whose Christmases have all come at once, it's with good reason. The 27 year old St Louis, Missouri native has just signed a four fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, MMA's premiere organisation.

It's been a long road to get there, however. Hecht is 10-2 as a professional, and is on a three fight win streak, including a win in Cork on the Cage Warriors promotion in May. He's beaten some big names along the way, including a win over The Ultimate Fighter Season 13 competitor Charlie Rader, but now Hecht has his sights on even bigger things.

"It's been on the horizon for about a year and a half now. After my last fight I called my manager (veteran UFC coach Marc Fiore) and told him I want to be on the big show (the UFC). And he told me that by the end of 2011 he'd have me on the big show, and he wasn't lying. So all the credit in the world to Fiore for making everything happen and getting me noticed".

Hecht fights on the UFC 140 undercard, which is being headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between the hugely impressive champion Jon "Bones" Jones, and former champion and karate black belt Lyota Machida. Hecht though is only focussed on one person ahead of December 10th - his opponent Rich Attonito.

"The funny thing is, I've trained with Rich before! He's out of American Top Team, I'm formerly of American Top Team, and he was there when I was there. I think he's going to be a good opponent for me. I think it's gonna be a great fight. We're both gonna go in there and bang, and I'm excited to see what happens".

In comparison to UFC newcomer Hecht, Attonito (10-4) has a wealth of experience in the organisation, having been a member of The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 cast, as well as having 4 fights inside the Octagon, three of those wins. Attonito is a former division 1 college wrestler, however Hecht, an extremely accomplished wrestler himself, feels his striking could be the difference on the night.

"Wrestling's a different game when you bring punching into it", says Hecht, a former Golden Gloves winner. "I feel with my punching combinations I'll have the advantage standing up".

Although normally a middleweight fighter, Hecht's bout with Attonito is at welterweight, the weight class below. He's also taken the fight at short notice, although he's not too concerned about that, or the impending weight cut.

"Yeah it is short notice", admits Hecht, "but I feel like I'm already in shape. I kinda had a feeling there'd be a fight coming before the end of the year so I kept myself in shape. But this just gives me less time to stress about it! I've been at middleweight for the past two fights. With the correct diet I should be fine, and I usually cut a lot of weight anyway, so getting to welterweight won't be a problem".

Hecht now resides in Cork, after taking up the head MMA coach position at the Boxing Clinic in Frankfield last year. And he says the support from not only his fighters at the gym but everyone he's spoken to this week has been overwhelming.

"It's great to have such great support here in Cork, and back home. I've had more people message me about this on Facebook than on my birthday!!"

Hecht v Attonito is on the undercard of UFC 140 - Jones vs Machida, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on December 10th. Hecht's fight will (more than likely) be available to view on the UFC's Facebook page for free on the night.

An easy victory for the home side ,who led from start to finish with coach Mark Scannell using the entire bench, giving some of the key players plenty of rest time.

Bizarre red card

A Premier League match in the Ukraine between Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Karpaty Lviv has seen one of the most bizarre red cards in history.

Dnipro's Samuel Inkoom had already been booked when he was substituted in the 61st minute.

Cork City are First Division 1 champions and back in the Premier Division.

A night of high drama in Tolka Park - with Graham Cummins getting the winner in the 94th minutes.

Unbelievable stuff.

Daryl Horgan gave City the dream start scoring after 4 minutes - But Shels settled down and controlled much of the play and equalised from David Cassidy in the 28 minute.

Pretty tight and tense after that - both sides had chances to win it - and it looked to be heading for a draw.

Then deep into stoppage time, Derek O'Brien crossed from near the right corner flag, allowing Cummins to head the ball in from close range.

Donal Og named new Cork Captain

Donal Og Cusack has been named captain of the Cork Senior Hurling team for 2012.

The Cloyne goalkeeper has been part of the Cork Senior set up since 1996 and will lead Jimmy Barry Murphy's men next season.

Munster have named 6 of the Ireland World Cup squad in the team for tomorrow evening's Rabo Direct Pro 12 game with Aironi in Musgrave Park.

Keith Earls, Conor Murray, Ronan O'Gara, Donnacha Ryan, Paul O'Connell and Denis Leamy all come into the side - while Donncha O'Callaghan and Tomas O'Leary are on the bench.

Will Chambers will make his first appearence at centre - since joining from Queenslands Reds.

Defending champions Midleton will play Sars in the Red FM Senior Hurling League Final After last Friday night,s semi finals in Fermoy.

Midleton beat Newtownshandrum by 1-17 to 3-8.

Conor Lehane the main man for the East Cork side - he scored 1-6.

While Sars had a comfortable win over Ballymartle - 14 points between the sides in the end - the final score was 3-16 to 1-8.

Cork City are one win away from being crowned champions

A great win for Cork City on Friday night in their final home game of the season.

They beat Longford Town 3-1 with goals from Davin O'Neill opening the scoring, Daryl Horgan scoring a contender for goal of the season with a fantastic lob and Graeme Cummins smashing home a penalty to seal all three points.

So as it stands,

A win for City in their final game away to Shels would see them promoted as champions.

A draw would see them finish 2nd and promoted.

A defeat and a Monaghan win would see City finish 3rd and enter a play-off.

That game is on next Saturday evening in Tolka Park.

Bord Gais Neptune lose to Killester

Bord Gais Neptune lost there first game of there season yesterday at Neptune stadium.

11890 Killester who beat Neptune in the final last season, started the game very strongly with Jermaine Turner strong under the boards.

Neptune never really left the dressing room ,they had only 28 points on the board at half time.

Killesters's defence was on top for 3 quarters, which was good enough as Neptune only came to life in the last quarter,but just gave themselves too much to do.

New Zealand are the Rugby World Champions 2011

New Zealand have won the Web Ellis Cup for the first time since 1987.

The Kiwis,who where strong favourites for the Rugby World Cup beat France in a very tight game.

8-7 the final score in Auckland.

For New Zealand there was a Tony Woodcock try and a penalty from substitue out-half Stephen Donald.

But France brought the game back to just a single point courtesy of a try from Thierry Dusatoir and a conversion kick from Francois Trinh -Duc.

Luckily, today is a holiday in New Zealand.

National Women's League to start in Ireland

It has been announced that there will be a new National Women's League in the Republic of Ireland.

And a Cork team will be involved when it begins on the Sunday the 13th of November.

There will be six teams involved ,Cork Women's FC,Peamount United, Castlebar Celtic,

Raheny United, Shamrock Rovers and Wexford Youths Women's.

It will be sponsored by Bus Eireann ,with every game being played on a Sunday at 2pm.
